The Webb Telescope is the most important observatory of the coming decade. It studies every phase in the history of our Universe, from the first flashes of light after the Big Bang, through the formation of solar systems capable of supporting life on planets like Earth, to the evolution of our own Solar System. The Webb Telescope was launched on December 25, 2021. It orbits the Sun at a distance of 1.5 million kilometers (1 million miles) from Earth, at the so-called second Lagrange point, or L2.
